For many years the Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce and Town of Ferdinand collaborated to host an annual community dinner and awards ceremony, but when the Ferdinand and Huntingburg chambers merged the event was dropped.

Members of the Ferdinand Merchants Association decided to bring this celebration of community back and the date has been set for Wednesday, August 21 at the Ferdinand Community Center, with doors opening at 5 p.m. In addition to a dinner, comedian Curtis Crow will perform and awards will be presented.

Everyone is invited! Tickets are $35 per person and sponsorships are available at various levels. More on that in a few paragraphs, but first, the organizing committee is seeking nominations for two awards.

Community leaders help keep the community progressing and a leader of the Ferdinand community who shows excellence in this position would be very deserving of this award. For the Excellence in Leadership Award, nominees should have a history of leadership with Ferdinand area activities, have made outstanding leadership contributions to the community and either holds or has held a leadership position in the public or private sector.

Do you know someone who always works to enhance this community and the lives of those who call Ferdinand home? For the Community Spirit Award nominees should have a history of engagement in Ferdinand area activities, have made an outstanding contribution to the community and goes above and beyond during community outreach events. This person does not necessarily have to hold a leadership position, but may be more behind the scenes, demonstrating passionate dedication to improving and strengthening the community.

Nominees should be from the area but not limited to Ferdinand. Nominations are due by June 30. Sponsorship levels for the dinner vary from $100 (with the sponsor receiving two tickets to the dinner and recognition in the program), to $250 (four tickets and the program/logo listing), to $500 (six seats, recognition in the program and an on-screen commercial provided by the sponsor and broadcast through the evening) to $1,000 (eight seats, the commercial and program recognition.

Invitations will be sent to area businesses but again, everyone is welcome at this celebration of community.
